LAUSITZ, Germany – Defending champion Paul Bonhomme is five points clear of his main adversary Hannes Arch at the top of the table with a total of 53 points overall and the 2010 championship title well within his grasp. In a bid to play it safe today, however, the calculated Brit is prepared to let Arch aim for the single point up for grabs in Qualifying so he can save his final push for the down-to-the-wire finale tomorrow.

“To be totally honest, I’m fully expecting Hannes to get the Qualifying point today,” said a very calm Bonhomme from the EuroSpeedway at Lausitz. “I’m just going to have a nice time here and put in some research for tomorrow’s racing. Hannes has certainly got a faster aeroplane, that’s clear from all the data I’ve seen over the year.”

After finishing 2nd in both training rounds earlier this week Bonhomme has already demonstrated he has the ability to win in Lausitz. With one of the fastest race planes in the championship, the 2009 champion only needs to continue with his consistent performance to secure a second consecutive title. But with a growing threat from some of the other teams in the championship, Bonhomme knows everyone else is also hungry for a final podium.

“I’m not sure I can stop Hannes getting the Qualifying point today but what I don’t want is go out there and push the limits, hit a pylon or disturb my flow for tomorrow,” he explains. “If the weather is not good tomorrow and they take today’s result then I do need to be in the top three. That’s all I’m aiming to do so I’m not racing against Hannes today but I am very aware that someone else could sneak up.”
