WINDSOR, Ontario - American pilots Kirby Chambliss and Michael Goulian are hoping a crowd packed with U.S. fans watching the Red Bull Air Race in Windsor from the Detroit side of the river will help give them a badly needed boost in this weekend’s racing.

Chambliss got a strong third in training on Friday morning. He won on the same track that straddles the U.S.-Canada border here in 2008 when the Race Airport was based in Detroit and said he is confident he has a shot to win again this year because his training sessions have been going well. Chambliss also won the Qualifying point here last year as well and has proven the difficult track suits his skills.

“We’re hoping to run right up there at the top,” said Chambliss, who is from Arizona.

Goulian, a Massachusetts native looking forward to the next race in New York, is also optimistic about his chances in Windsor. “There’s been a lot of pylon hits,” he said. “All the airplanes are getting bunched up close together and the pilots are figuring out the track. It’s going to be a great weekend. We had unbelievable crowds here last year.”
