Bonhomme Tops Perfect Season With Wedding

MAIDENHEAD, United Kingdom – Paul Bonhomme crowned a brilliant year in 2009 by marrying his partner Laura in a private ceremony on 28th November in the company of the couple’s immediate families and their children, Charlie and Olivia. The new Mr. and Mrs. Bonhomme then helped switch on the Christmas lights in his childhood town of Maidenhead, Berkshire together with a large crowd of fans and well-wishers.

Surprise at surprise party

Bonhomme, who came from behind to win his first title in thrilling fashion this year after finishing an excruciating second in both 2007 and 2008, discovered that being involved in his own wedding turned out to be more daunting, exciting, nerve-racking but also more fun than any type of flying he has ever done before. Laura capped the memorable day by organising a surprise party for Paul to celebrate the world championship. They then announced their wedding to surprised guests - a surprise at the surprise party.

2009 a year to remember

The party at the West London Aero Club, which has had an important influence on Bonhomme’s flying career, was the perfect venue to celebrate what has been a year to remember.

Bonhomme and Laura first crossed paths in 1998 at Duxford, where he flew vintage aircraft at the former Royal Air Force airfield and she was working. After that there were several unsuccessful introduction attempts, according to Bonhomme, in which she used every opportunity to ignore him. They started courting in 2003 and bought a house together in 2005 – and were in the midst of living happily ever after.

Their daughter Olivia was born earlier this year and turned into one of the sport’s youngest fans as she watched several races live, including Abu Dhabi and his championship win in Barcelona.
