NEW YORK - Yoshi Muroya of Japan will not be competing in the New York Red Bull Air Race this weekend after his race airplane suffered damage while landing at the Race Airport in New Jersey.

Muroya clipped the propeller while landing and his team was not able to repair the damage in time for the New York race on June 19/20. Muroya had been ferrying his replacement Edge 540 airplane from Windsor, where he had been training in the airplane for the last two weeks.

Muroya, who is 11th in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship standings with five points, has been plagued by misfortune during the two-stop North America leg of the eight-race world championship. In Windsor, Ontario Muroya's canopy was damaged and could not be replaced in time for the June 5/6 race. His team lost a race against the clock to get a replacement airplane from Oklahoma to the race in Canada. Muroya had hoped to fly the replacement aircraft in New York and spent the last two weeks working on it in Windsor.

Muroya issued an apology to his fans and supporters. He said his team was looking forward to the three-stop European leg of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
