2 Race Pilot (Super Licence)
2.1 General
This document describes the process how a Race Pilot is selected and qualified to participate in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship and other Red Bull Air Race (Air Races) events. The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence, also referred to as the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Unrestricted), is issued by the Director Aviation, Red Bull Air Race GmbH, to each suitably trained and qualified Race Pilot. The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence is issued in the form of a certificate with a stated period of validity which is signed by the Race Pilot and the Director Aviation, Red Bull Air Race GmbH. The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence certifies that the Race Pilot has satisfactorily completed the applicable syllabus as stated in this document and is therefore suitably qualified to participate in Red Bull Air Race events. Only Race Pilots with a valid Red Bull Air Race Super Licence may participate in an Air Race as a Race Pilot or other events of the Red Bull Air Race GmbH, such as Red Bull Air Race exhibitions or Red Bull Air Race media events. Exception exists for active Race Pilots in the previous Red Bull Air Race World Championship season: These Race Pilots will maintain their status and therefore the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence for the upcoming season is given.
Director Aviation, Red Bull Air Race GmbH, also selects, trains and qualifies the pilots who are flying the passenger aircraft (Media Pilots) to perform operations at events of the Red Bull Air Race GmbH, such as Air Races, Red Bull Air Race media events or Red Bull Air Race exhibitions. Media Pilots are only trained to fly through a single Gate in wings level and horizontal flight and are therefore awarded a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted). They also are allowed to conduct aerobatic flying with passengers. Exception exists for active Media Pilots in the previous Red Bull Air Race World Championship season: These Media Pilots will maintain their status and therefore the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) for the upcoming season is given.
It is the intent of the Director Aviation, to progressively submit this document to appropriate Federal Aviation Regulators (e.g. US FAA, UK CAD, AUST CASA, POR INAC, etc.) with the objective of the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence being recognised in those jurisdictions as a formal qualification. To clarify, the intent is that the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence is recognised in legislation as a separate yet equivalent of the existing Surface Level Waiver or ground level display approval qualifications. In these jurisdictions the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence would be the only low level aerobatic qualification required by the regulator, or would automatically entitle a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence holder to be issued the equivalent low level aerobatic qualification required by the regulator, to participate in an event of Red Bull Air Race GmbH.
2.2 Minimum requirements and application process
An applicant will typically be a professional pilot with experience in aerobatic competition and air display. He or she must be fluent in speaking and writing English.
2.2.1 Application
Applications may be submitted to the Aviation Department, Red Bull Air Race GmbH using a potential future Race Pilot Application Form. 2.3 Selection
Applicants meeting the minimum requirements stated, and those included by the Director Aviation, will be eligible for the selection process. The selection process includes a general assessment of the applicant's flying background and experience. Consideration will also be given to other factors such as personality, apparent ability to manage a team and availability.
At the sole discretion of the Director Aviation, an applicant may be provided additional aerobatic coaching under the supervision of the Aviation Department.
Successful applicants may be invited to attend a Qualification Camp to obtain ground and flight training according to the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence Syllabus, especially focusing on Race Track flying for the Air Races. The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence Board will evaluate the performance of the applicants. After a successful passing of the Qualification Camp the applicant will receive his Red Bull Air Race Super Licence.
Those attending a Qualification Camp will be continually assessed on aspects such as capability and temperament by the scheduled Race Director. The Race Director will provide his assessment to Director Aviation on behalf of the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence Board to assist in the Qualification Process.
2.3.1 Red Bull Air Race Super Licence Board

2.3.3 Red Bull Air Race Super Licence Selection- and Training process
2.4 Qualification Camp
2.4.1 Ground Training
Ground Training is to provide a pilot with the fundamental information in order to safely conduct the Race Track Flying Training during a Qualification Camp and to prepare the pilot for the Red Bull Air Race World Championship flying standards and culture.
2.4.2 Race Track Flying Training
Race Track Flying Training is to familiarise the pilot with low flying around and between pylons, flying sections of the Race Track, flying the Race Track route and culminating in "step-down" into the full Race Track.
2.4.3 Recurrent Training
Recurrent Training is available to former holders of a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence for licence renewal according to the validity of the respective licence in this document.
2.5 Red Bull Air Race Super Licence Certificate
2.5.1 Privileges
The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence may be issued with or without restrictions in privileges subject to the successful completion of the appropriate syllabus and qualification process as described in this section. The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence is issued by and at the discretion of the Director Aviation. A Red Bull Air Race Super Licence may be withdrawn at any time by the Director Aviation for reasons given in writing to the holder, or immediately in case safety is affected.
The holder of a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence or Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) may only exercise the privileges of that licence when also in adherence to the currency
requirements described in this document and participating in an Air Race as a Race Pilot.
The holder of a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence may participate in official Air Races and Red Bull Air Race Exhibition or Red Bull Air Race media events as briefed by the Director
Aviation or his delegate i.e. Race Director or Deputy Director Aviation. The intent of the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Unrestricted) is to qualify the pilot to fly safely in the full Race Track i.e. more than one gate.
2.5.2 Validity Period
All Red Bull Air Race Super Licences for Race Pilots are typically issued just prior to the beginning of the race season with a validity period of twelve (12) months.
2.5.3 "Wild Card Entry Pilot"
In exceptional cases the Race Committee may declare a pilot who has successfully completed the prerequisite training described in this section and who holds a valid Red Bull Air Race Super Licence to be a so called "Wildcard Entry Pilot". A "Wildcard Entry Pilot" may be issued a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence at any time during the year with an expiry date being the same as the stated expiry date for the Race Pilots. In that case it might be a period of less than 12 month reflected on the licence. That pilot will receive additional track training as recurrent training if the time exceeds six (6) months after he has received a track-training during a Qualification Camp. That additional training can then be accomplished at an Event before he starts in an actual Training Flying Sessions during that race week.
2.5.4 "Standby Pilot"
The Race Committee may declare a Pilot who has successfully completed the prerequisite training described in this section to be a so called "Standby Race Pilot". A "Standby Race Pilot" is a Pilot who has neither been selected as a "Rookie Pilot" nor a "Wild Card Pilot" after successfully passing a Qualification Camp and thus is on standby for future selection by the Race Committee as such.
2.5.5 Currency
The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence is subject to the following standard currency requirements. Additional currency requirements may be specified for individual Super Licence holders at the discretion of the Director Aviation.
A Red Bull Air Race Super Licence holder may be scheduled to participate in an Event if that holder has participated in an Event or Qualification Camp within the six (6) months previous to the future event.
If the time exceeds six (6) months the Race Pilot will attend a Qualification Camp for recurrent training. In cases where this is not possible, and at the discretion of the Director Aviation, the Race Pilot may be scheduled for extra training sessions during the Event. In any case, the Director Aviation will make an assessment of the readiness of the Race Pilot to participate in the Qualification and Race phase of the Event.
3 Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) - for Media Pilots
3.1 General
This document describes the process how Red Bull Air Race GmbH selects, trains and qualifies Media Pilots to perform passenger operations at events of the Red Bull Air Race GmbH, Red Bull Air Race media events or Red Bull Air Race exhibitions as a Media Pilot. Media Pilots are only trained to fly through a single Gate in wings level and horizontal flight and therefore receive a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted).
The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) is issued by the Director Aviation, Red Bull Air Race GmbH, to suitably trained pilots. The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) is issued in form of a certificate with a stated period of validity which is signed by the Race Pilot and the Director Aviation, Red Bull Air Race GmbH.
The Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) certifies that the pilot has satisfactorily completed the applicable syllabus as stated in this document. To clarify, the intent is that the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) is recognised in legislation as a separate yet equivalent of the existing Surface Level Waiver or ground level display approval qualifications. In these jurisdictions the Red Bull Air Race Super Licence (Restricted) would be the only low level aerobatic qualification required by the regulator, or would automatically entitle a Red Bull Air Race Super Licence holder to be issued the equivalent low level aerobatic qualification required by the regulator, to act as a Media Pilot at events of the Red Bull Air Race GmbH.
