LAUSITZ, Germany – Red Bull Air Race pilot Alejandro Maclean has been named as the 2010 winner of the highly regarded Paul Tissandier Diploma which is issued by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) for the recipient’s contribution to general and sporting aviation, and recognises their work, initiative and devotion to the cause.

The Diploma, established by the FAI in 1952, is named after Paul Tissandier, Secretary General of the FAI from 1919 to 1945. Tissandier was a pupil of aviation legend Wilbur Wright and began his flying career in 1904 as a hot air balloon pilot before moving on to airships and standard aircraft.

Maclean will receive his award in October during the annual FAI conference, which is to be held in Dublin. He is currently sitting in 11th place overall in the 2010 championship with one race left to accrue further points this weekend at the EuroSpeedway in Lausitz, Germany.
