Team Maclean is representing UAE newspaper and online resource ‘The National’ for the inaugural race of the 2010 season. The English language newspaper was launched in Abu Dhabi and has always been a strong editorial supporter of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship so the partnership with the team is a sound move for all involved.
‘The National’ has the objective of reinforcing Abu Dhabi's status as a global economic centre, as well as a political, cultural and social leader of the Arab world. Abu Dhabi Media Company's impressive print portfolio also includes Al Ittihad newspaper, Majed magazine, Super magazine and Zahrat Al Khaleej magazine. The company also owns and operates three satellite television channels - Abu Dhabi TV, Abu Dhabi Sports Channel and Al Emarat Channel - as well as four radio channels - Abu Dhabi Radio, Emirates FM, Sawt Al Musiqa and The Holy Koran Radio.
Maclean is also looking to reinforce his position in the championship with a dedicated focus on aircraft improvement and has made large investment in the technical development of the machine. The pilot, who is racing in his new MXS-R this year, has spent the winter months with his technical director at the MX Aircraft site in North Carolina, USA.
“We went to North Carolina in November to see our new plane for 2010 and to try to incorporate all the adjustments and innovations which we lacked in 2009,” explains Maclean. “Above all we wanted to obtain the best possible engine, since 2009 showed that the engine is the key to success.”
The determined Spaniard appears more focused this year and withstrong support from ‘The National’ and parent company the Abu Dhabi Media Company, he and his team will be aiming for a successful first race here in the UAE capital this weekend.
Two other key commercial partnerships will further help the team to achieve their goals. Maclean will continue to work with clothing company GAS and also brings sunglasses and sporting accessory brand Oakley on board for 2010.
“We are more motivated than ever,” adds the pilot. “And we’re looking forward to competing and achieving the best possible results.”
