Yoshihide Muroya during training session in Windsor Ontario.

WINDSOR ONTARIO, Canada - On Friday, 12 June 2009, Japanese Pilot, Yoshihide Muroya, experienced a pylon hit during the third training session of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Windsor, Canada.

After an intensive investigation by the Technical Director, and in consultation with the manufacturer Eric Zivko, it was determined that the Edge 540 aircraft was not serviceable for racing this weekend.

This decision was based on the Red Bull Air Race World Championship’s higher than normal safety standards. The Red Bull Air Race Committee determined as a precautionary measure, to ship the Edge 540 aircraft to the manufacturer for further investigation to ensure Yoshihide Muroya’s aircraft is ready for racing at the next round in Budapest on 21 August 2009.

“Safety is paramount for an event of this scale and we are proud of our strong standards and 100% safety track record after a total of 39 races.” Bernd Loidl, CEO Red Bull Air Race GmbH.

As a result of this decision, Yoshihide Muroya, will not participate in the third round of the Red Bull Air Race this weekend and will record a DNS on the qualification and race day.
