Berger and Murphy top Free Practice timesheets

German and British pilots lead the way in Ascot

Berger was dominant in Free Practice

Florian Berger and Ben Murphy threw down the gauntlet here in Ascot today as they topped the Free Practice timesheets in the English sunshine.
Local hero Ben Murphy, flying in his first home race, topped the timesheet in Free Practice 2 with a time of 1:16.903 - 2.445s faster than second place Florian Berger.

The result was a reversal of Free Practice 1, when German pilot Berger flew an impressive 1:18.340 - more than a second quicker than Murphy's time.

British-born Melanie Astles, who is looking for her first podium of the season, finished third on the timesheet in Free Practice 1, but was unable to repeat her time in the afternoon session, finishing fifth in Free Practice 2.

The biggest surprise of the morning was Daniel Ryfa who was nearly three seconds off the pace. The ice-cool Swede hasn't raced since Spielberg back in April and will want as much track time as possible. He bounced back in Free Practice 2, posting a time of 1:22.102, but it still wasn't enough to top Berger or Murphy.

Kevin Coleman, who leads the Challenger Class standings, was unable to continue his good form in today's sessions and finished fourth in both sessions.

Cristian Bolton who is racing at Ascot for a third time was unable to improve on his rivals' time. The Chilean pilot finished second in the race last year and will be hoping to return to form tomorrow.
