Ryfa lays down marker before Qualifying

Ice cool Swedish pilot in fine form in final Free Practice session

Through the Hamilton Finish Gate

Daniel Ryfa put the pressure on the other Challenger pilots in the final Free Practice session before this afternoon's Qualifying by posting a time of 1:00.736, nearly a second faster than his closest rival.

Ben Murphy was the closest to Ryfa and crossed the Finish Gate 0.872s slower than the Swedish pilot. It's hotter in the track today and current Challenger Champion Florian Bergér struggled in the heat, he was more than 1.5s slower than the leader.

Polish pilot Luke Czepiela was fourth on the timesheet with Melanie Astles just behind him in fifth, she finished with a time of 1:03.611, not her fastest run of the week, so she'll be analysing her lines looking for ways to improve for Qualifying.

Kevin Coleman, who finished second in Abu Dhabi last year, was off the pace. The American finished more than three seconds behind session winner Ryfa, and has said he needs to find speed from somewhere.

New Challenger Baptiste Vignes flew smoothly in the session, but was unable to improve on his times from yesterday. The French pilot finished 5.072s behind the leader, but picked up a penalty for incorrect level flying.

Qualifying for the Challengers begins at 15:00 local time (11:00UTC), you can follow it all LIVE right here.
