Sonka sets himself up perfectly for Qualifying

Czech pilot dominates Free Practice 3 in Abu Dhabi

Sonka tops Free Practice 3 timesheet

In the final run before Qualifying Martin Sonka showed his intention to start his season well in Free Practice 3 when he posted the fastest time of the week so far with a time of 52.427s run.

Close behind was fellow countryman Petr Kopfstein, who has been flying consistently and was just 0.416s behind Sonka. He is fast becoming one to watch this season.

Michael Goulian often begins race weeks well and this season is no different. The American posted a time of 53.186s, which was enough to see him third on the timesheet, and he'll be hoping to continue that form into Qualifying. Close behind Goulian was new Master Class pilot Cristian Bolton, who finished fourth.

World Champion Matthias Dolderer picked up a two second penalty for incorrect level flying at Gate 8 and that saw him slump down to eighth in the standings, his net time was fast enough to see him in third.

Several other pilots also picked up penalties for incorrect level flying including Nicolas Ivanoff, Peter Podlunsek and Mikael Brageot, who finished in 11th.

Kirby Chambliss was the only victim of exceeding the G-limit today and received a DNF in the final practice session, and will want to put it behind him before Qualifying.

The pilots will return to their hangars to analyse their last practice session. The time for testing, training and practicing is over, it's now time for the racing to begin.
